Position Profile
Nuclear Criticality Safety Engineer / Direct Hire
Compensation: Based on background and experience. Current direct hire industry
average nationwide is roughly $100K.

Company Information:My client is one of the oldest and most recognized names in the nuclear power generation
industry having developed reactors and other systems for both military and commercial power generation facilities since the inception of the industry in the US. In fact in this age of instant information theirs would be one of the first names to appear on any web search on the subject.

Like many in the nuclear power business my client is taking advantage of the resurgenceof interest in nuclear power and is currently expanding it’s staff in specific areas to help them not only with current projects, but to assist them in preparation for a number of expected projects in the new year. The professional requirements of the job are shown below. However, there are a number of other factors that will help them in determining whether they pursue any given candidate, chief among them being the ability and desire to remain with the company in the long term and grow into a leadership role. Next, and while this sounds somewhat cliché, my client’s organization is very team, almost family oriented and as such they require people who can work well in a very close knit setting. In part this means have solid communications skills and a relatively even keel personality, though it also means someone who is focused on the clients and success of the project/program and not simply their own political and professional gain. On a practical level please note that this is a direct hire position, the company does not wish to bring on board contractors in this case and the job will require relocation to the work site in Virginia.

Duties of this position include:
Responsible for performing nuclear criticality safety analysis and developing the safety basis for fissile material operations in a dynamic manufacturing environment.

Develop computer models to demonstrate compliance with NRC license limits during
normal operating conditions and process upsets.

Establish limits and controls for plant activities to maintain safe and efficient operations.

Participate in integrated safety analysis by evaluating accident scenarios and identifying items relied on for safety to prevent a potential criticality.

Participate in special projects such as audits and inspections, incident investigations and design reviews.

Job Requirements :
BS Degree in Engineering or Physical Sciences
Previous Criticality Safety experience and knowledge of NCS codes.
US citizenship required for site access and the ability to obtain and maintain a
Department of Energy security clearance. Passing a pre-employment drug screen is also a requirement of employment.
